Permission for an uploaded graphic

edit

Hi, Thanks for the feedback about the graphic I uploaded. I have permission from the club to use the graphic 'anywhere'. The version of the badge that is current on the Tamworth Football Club Wikipedia page is an unofficial incorrect version and should be replaced by the correctly represented version from the official source as soon as possible. I hope you can help me resolve this. Best regards Manonthemoon74 (talk) 20:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Manonthemoon74: OK. The club has two options at this point:
  • You could upload the image to English Wikipedia under fair use. The club would retain both copyright and trademark if you chose this. By policy, it can only be used on English Wikipedia, and it has to be low-resolution. This is the easiest path and the one that most copyright holders choose.
  • You could keep the license you have on the page, which means that the club is releasing the copyright under cc-by-sa-4.0. You would need to follow the instructions I left on your talk page for proving the club is OK with the license. The club would retain full rights to its trademark. The image could be used on any wiki and be high resolution. This takes a bit longer due to the emails.
Unless you've been specifically authorized to do the second option, you'll probably want to do the first, but it's ultimately up to you. Which would you prefer? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:53, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply and two options.
I am a bit of a novice here, so when you say upload to English Wikipedia, what are the steps to follow to enable this?
And regarding low resolution, how do I know what is acceptable?
I am authorised to do the second option, but the first does seem like it will tick the box we want, and quicker
Apologies for seemingly obvious questions, and thanks in advance Manonthemoon74 (talk) 19:10, 4 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You already uploaded it to English Wikipedia, so I added a fair use rationale. The image will be downsized (made lower resolution) by a bot in the next few days, but at least it will have the correct outline on that wiki. So that is done.
Regarding low resolution, I imagine you'll find it acceptable regardless. Most people don't notice the difference when reading Wikipedia.
Now if you would like to release the image, we'd love to have it. This would have the added benefit of being usable on other wikis like Spanish Wikipedia. If you're OK with that, you can follow the instructions on your talk page for sending proof of ownership and release. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:11, 6 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
