Somalia map update - January 2014

edit

Hi, I have noticed that the map for the current situation in Somalia (File:Somalia map states regions districts.png from March 25, 2013) has been without an update for a while. And while there haven't been any significant changes in territory lately, I noticed that the flag of Jubaland/Azania is out of date. As I have neither an account nor the means to edit the file, is it possible that you can update the map? It'd be very helpful. Thanks. (p.s. What happened to Awdalland and the territory between Puntland & Somaliland?)

Somalia map update

edit

Hi, First of all , I would like to thank you for your work on Somalia map. However, it has been 6 months since the last update and the situation on the ground has evolved a lot. Could you update it ? Many thanks ! --Densaga (talk) 14:32, 24 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Akhi, I really think you shouldn't leave because of one misunderstanding with ShakataGaNai. Your images are of high quality and future contributions would have been very valuable to everyone. Please reconsider. --Kimse 06:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

New flags proposals

edit

...nice. Could you explain the meanings of things on the flag?--Orlovic (talk) 11:53, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The flag with the green fly and gold star contains both the pan-African as well as the pan-Arab colours (green yellow red as well as green white black red), and the arabic calligraphy is "Bismallah" (In the name of Allah). The alternative flag does not have the pan-African colours, but rather the Somali national colours of light blue and white as well as the pan-Arab colours. I chose the Bismallah as it is a profession of faith without being as aggressive or associated with militant Islam as the Shahadah (which says "there is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is the messenger of Allah").

Hey, great map. Any chance you have the sources you used to create that map and could mark them on the page? gren (talk) 01:15, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I asked the same a while ago on the talk page. I also like this map. Please list the sources Ingoman/James? Maybe it is also an idea to save all the updates to different maps, so people can easily make a time line out of your maps. .....jeroencommons..... 14:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well a lot of the sources I can't really cite. Some towns I have to actually ask someone who has family there what's going on. I have to get an update in actually, the situation in the central regions is different now. --66.46.109.222 16:29, 21 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please add as many sources you have. --.....jeroencommons..... 00:24, 13 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Any idea when an update will be made?

Hi Ingoman,

Your last picture of "Somalia map states regions districts" http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Somalia_map_states_regions_districts.png contains an error in yellow rectangle on the rihgt. There is Somaliand, and should be Somaliland, I think. Best regards Slawek

your map

edit

Hi. Please see my post here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Somalia_map_states_regions_districts.png - Can you upload each of existing 32 map versions as a separate files into Wikimedia Commons? These maps, where each of them reflects different time period would be very valuable material for history of Somalia one day, so I think that each of them should be in Wikimedia Commons as a separate file that reflects different time period of the Somalian war. PANONIAN (talk) 13:40, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I mean, you should do the same thing with that map that you done with your older maps here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Ingoman (each of them is separate file). PANONIAN (talk) 13:44, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Italian_East_Africa.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hello, Ingoman!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi again

edit

Hi again. You did not answered to my proposal, so I am contacting you again. For historical purpose, some older versions of your map "Somalia map states regions districts.png" should be uploaded as separate files and kept here as files that would illustrate former political situations in Somalia (not only currect one). I could upload these files, but you are author and it would be best that you do that. If not, I can upload them, however, you made some corrections to some file versions and I do not want to upload files with errors, so I hope that you can tell me which of the older file versions are correct and can be uploaded as separate files? Thank you. PANONIAN (talk) 10:13, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

I want to go back and create historically accurate versions of older maps, but older maps are as accurate as I was aware at the time, and most have one or two inaccuracies. --Ingoman (talk) 22:25, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ok. You certainly should create historically accurate maps of important changes on Somalia political map. Anyway, you made good work with these maps and maps that show different time periods in Somalian recent history should be all posted in Atlas of Somalia article, so that everybody can find them there. Update the Map?

I love the map that you've made, on which what territory is controlled by each Somali faction is illustrated.

The most recent map is dated 12 March. Can you tell us when you will be creating an updated map?

Thank You

I have a Somalia-related graphics need you may find interesting.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:44, 4 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! Most of the information we've been able to collect about Scouting in Somalia has been sketchy and broken, this isn't much better, I am sorry. Somalia has had Scouts since the Italian and British periods, but has never been a member of any international body like most countries are. All I have is a physical description to go on. There were two badges in use at different times. One is en:File:Scouting in Somalia.png, the second version has a single star at the center ring (not at the sides), the same lighter blue as File:Flag of Somalia.svg and a scroll below as in en:File:National Scout Association of Eritrea.svg. "Be Prepared" in Somali is Diyaar Ahaaw. Can you make something like this? You did a great job with the ICU flag, so I know you can do much with little to go on. Thank you so much, any help you can give would be appreciated! --Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 20:05, 4 July 2010 (UTC), updated 17:30, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Awdalland

edit

It appears that the map of the current state of Somalia should be updated Awdalland.--23prootie (talk) 11:58, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is no awdalland this is SSC propaganda or as we called them PSS(Part of Sool and Sanaag) Those sources you named are PSS homepages come on.

Awdalland don´t exist this is propaganda against Somaliland on SSC terrorist homepages

edit

Ingoman those sources are bare SSC homepages who want to undermine Somaliland achievement so don´t let them make you put in fabricated lies in the border dispute that a place called awdalland exist it does not exist.

Jubaland

edit

Hey there. A few days ago you added an entity called Jubaland to your map. Can I ask what your sources for this entity and its flag are? I would be interested in hearing more information about it. Orange Tuesday (talk) 19:08, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not really new, the militia of Barre Hiraale (who have been based in Dolow for years now, formerly under the Al Sunna wal Jamaca banner) have declared themselves the State of Jubaland with a cabinet and president etc and set out to reconquer from Luuq to Kismayo. So far they haven't gotten past Beled Xawo, though I guess the future will tell. Ingoman (talk) 20:53, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Looks like they've had some success heheh. Ingoman (talk) 23:27, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Azania's flag

edit

Hi there. For the next version of your map: Azania's flag has been reported as a tricolour of white, blue, and red. See here:

[1][2] [3]

Similar to Russia's flag but the blue in the pictures looks sky blue. Orange Tuesday (talk) 15:14, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Why, Why does the map [Somalia map states regions districts.png] flag instead of Azania (as here [4]) suddenly appeared the other tricolor - like flag Russia ([5]) ????????? --PlatonPskov (talk) 13:49, 4 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

HELLO JAMES DAHL,

Acordin to your latest map of SOMALIA it seems that both AZANIA + RAS KAMBONI have merged into a one & single new State. You name this new State Azania/Raskamboni. But when I look at this page here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jubaland it seems this new one & single State is named JUBALAND and it seems to have a new (another one another time !!!!) flag. What do you think of it all ???? I didnt wait & I V just changed my page SOMALIA in my CODEX DE VEXILLIS here : http://markodehaeck.free.fr/SO.htm
