To make the statue more central in the composition. The fort brings some context (although it is not directly related to Surcouf I think: most of the city existed when he lived), but without it the image is a better simple and direct illustration of, say, an article about Surcouf. • • I considered the uncropped version, but thought it made the statue too small in any reasonable size for an article thumbnail, unfortunately. The uncropped versin is a better image for gweeneral use, but in the specific context VIC is judged in, this is better. Adam Cuerden (talk) 13:18, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
