Please don't upload files that don't allow unrestricted modifications. See Commons:Licensing for details. These files will be deleted. --EugeneZelenko 15:52, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

editYou uploaded many images with incorrect license information. Version of Creative Commons licenses on flickr.com is 2.0. You also remove important non-derivatives/non-commercial restrictions (incompatible with Commons:Licensing, so you violates terms of use. You may contact authors of images and ask them to re-license images under CC-BY or CC-BY-SA. --EugeneZelenko 16:12, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Re: Hi
editHi! Thanks for notifying me my fault. Basically I often fail to understand the signicance of each licensing, as I am rather infrequent in wikimedia commons. I see that FlickR uses several types of licemsing, version 2.0. make commercial use of the work" are two basic requirements to upload images in commons. Am I right? And that is irrespective of versions. in FlickR, mostly they use version 2.0, however some are licensed under no derivatives or no commercial use or both. Such images cannot be uploaded in commons. Right? I ask you because this clarification would be very helpful, and I shall not upload images that are not acceptable in commons henceforth. Please help.--Dwaipayanc 14:02, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, non commercial/non derivative works are not acceptable on Commons (policy is files could be used by anybody for any purpose). Only files under Creative Commons Atribution (by) and Attribution ShareAlike (by-sa) licenses could be uploaded on Commons.
- Of course, you could try to contact authors and ask them to re-license their work under these licenses.

- As a matter of fact, right now I am writting letters to the authors! The omages relating to Darjeeling are very important as those have been used in wikipedia in the article Darjeeling. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darjeeling). That article is going some major edits, and have plans to run for FAC. Could the deletion be at least postponed for some days, by the time I am hopeful to fet permission from respective authors. Thanks a lot. Regards.--Dwaipayanc 14:19, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- You could do it yourself. Please write in images descriptions something like Please don't delete this image until XXX. I'm contacting author to re-license image under YYY license. Thank you for understanding. --EugeneZelenko 14:24, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Again disturbing you! The author of Image:CoffehouseKolkata12.jpg gave me the permission to use the image in Kolkata aticle of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkata) - which is a featured article and contains the image. I guess that is not acceptable here in commons, right? In that case, should I upload it in wikipedia and use the email permission? What do you think? I have appealed in the image's talk page also. help, again :( --Dwaipayanc 14:39, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Same thing applies to Image:Flowermarket.jpg where I have even supplied the link to the email by the author!--Dwaipayanc 14:42, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think better solution - to upload these images locally on English Wikipedia. English Wikipedia have less restrictive images policies then Commons. May be Creative Commons nc/nd licenses are accepted there too.
- E-mail only is not good solution. License change should be visible and accessible for everybody for avoiding legal loopholes: one license in Wikipedia, other - on flickr.com.

editUnfortunately, I am not the talented photographer Steve Evans, just someone who likes his photos. However, you can contact him through his Flickr homepage -- it seems you'll have to sign up for an account first, though. -- Ranveig 13:03, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
