Description

View of the impressive east wall of The Old Arsenal at the foot of Gediminas Hill, in old town Vilnius, where the historical Upper and Lower Castles were located.

The Vilnius Castle Complex had two arsenals, the New and Old, during its history. The Old Arsenal was established in the 15th century, during the rule of Vytautas the Great. It was expanded during subsequent rulers and by the mid 17th century the Old Arsenal housed about 180 heavy cannons. Today, the building houses an exposition of Lithuania's pre-history.
