English: The Intarsia of Langon, a marble tombstone that covered the sepulcher of the Hospitaller knight Josepho de Langon in the Cathedral of Cartagena, and which is presently preserved in the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Cartagena.
Josepho de Langon Alverno died on April 18, 1710, in naval engagement against the Barbary pirates off the Spanish Eastern coast. His comrades in arms buried him in nearby Cartagena, his brother Adriano paying for the mosaic showing a large coat of arms of Cartagena binded to the Maltese cross, held by two supporters of both sexes and with different scenes of combat between Muslim and Order of Saint John warships superimposed. |
