Description
English: This sign at Erie Canal Harbor, Buffalo, New York, USA, commemorates the site of the world's first grain elevator. The mechanisation of loading and storage of grain not only helped maintain Buffalo's pre-eminence on the transport routes from the Mid-West to the US Atlantic coast, but helped the development of the US and Canada as breadbasket of the western world.
