Where the facil-ities of the Post admit, additional gym-nasium exercises are prescribed. During the second period the exercisesare more strictly athletic in nature. Also,the period is divided into three courses,these last having due regard for the cli- matic conditions of each Post and itsavailable gymnastic facilities. The first course is composed of thesimplest form of the exercises alludedto, the second of the more difficult andthe third of those hardest of execution.Some idea of the very thorough athleticeducation of the American soldier maybe obtained from a recitation of the chieffeatures of the trio of courses.
