Description	English: This story was collected in conjunction with the national traveling exhibition "Journey Stories" by the Museum on Main Street program at the Smithsonian Institution. It is part of the "Be Here: Main Street" collection, intended to capture Americans' stories about their neighborhoods, waterways, towns, traditions, and personal experiences. #bHereMainSt One woman describes how her grandfather moved from Germany to Northern Michigan in the 1890s, leaving his family behind forever. After settling in for some time, he met his future wife and had five children. In the 1970s, there was a reunion of distant American and German families.
