Summary
editDescriptionHistoric Hampi.jpg |
English: Virupaksha Temple located in Hampi is a prime example of the strength of the Vijaynagar empire and the rich cultural history of India. Foreign invaders destroyed every other temple of hampi in some way or the other but they couldn't harm this great temple due to its location and solid architecture. It's gate was so strong that it protected it from canon attacks. This is the only temple in Hampi which has an idol present in the sanctum scrotum. In the times of Raja Krishnadevaraya, market was organised around this temple and at festivals, grand processions were carried out involving the king and the elephants.
