English: Nemertean worms (Nemertea) - a phylum of animal that can accumulate extremely high amounts of tetrodotoxin (TTX), also known as the main component of puffer fish venom. They are one of the promising model objects for studying the migration routes of TTX in marine ecosystems, as well as for studying its origin in animals. Studying the distribution of TTX in the body of nemertinas can help answer the question: do they get the toxin from food or can they produce it themselves? One of the methods for studying the distribution of TTX in worms tissues is immunohistochemical, in tandem with various types of microscopy. This image, obtained using a confocal laser scanning microscope, shows the trunk of a nemertine from the genus Cephalotrix, marked by antibodies to tetrodotoxin (red), antibodies to βIII-tubulin (green), DAPI dye (marks the cell nuclei - blue) and rhodamine-phalloidin (marks the filaments of the muscle protein actin - yellow). Nemertines use their proboscis to hunt molluscs, polychaetes, and small crustaceans. In the yellow zone (the muscle layer), you can see something very similar to the inscription, that's just what they want to tell us...?
