Description
English: The richly illustrated travel journal of Johan Nieuhof, a worldtraveller from Amsterdam was published in 1655. Nieuhoff accompanied from 1655 to 1658 a delegation of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to the Emperor of China. After his return he had his journals published. The book was one of the great bestsellers of its time. The enormous interest in this kind of books stimulated many other publishers to publish richly illustrated travel stories. This view on Peking is probable taken from such a book.
