edit1LT Sharon Ann Lane, Army Nurse Corps, United States Army, at her promotion to First Lieutenant, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, 1968. 1LT Lane was killed in action in the Republic of Vietnam on 8 June 1968 while serving at the 312th Evacuation Hospital. She was the only American nurse, and only American female servicemember killed in action during the Vietnam War.
