A very fine folk rag from Texas, one of many good rags that came from Texas that were written by women. This one was published in Dallas in 1907. Musescore's Erlingl found some great info regarding Hattie Goben:

Hattie Bernice Goben was born 1878 in Texas. (A cousin says:) “Her parents had a beautiful home and a big piano. Hattie was a natural musician, she played the piano by ear, never took a music lesson”. Her father died in 1891 and it seems she was raised by her uncle Horace Goben in Lehigh, Oklahoma. Living in Dallas 1907. Lehigh newspaper writes: "Hattie Goben of Dallas has published "the Teddy bear". She has composed several other meritorious pieces, most of her work being popular rag-time compositions. The music is arranged by Phil Epstein”.

She married at least twice (shot her first husband, Joe Simms, in self-defense!) and is mentioned as Mrs. Hahn when her mother died in 1921. But she had no children, I believe. Hattie Goben died in Houston Texas in 1948.
