Project updates- Zentangle Still Life

Zentangle Still Lifes What a successful project! We used Sharpie for our Zentangle backgrounds and chalk pastel for our still lifes. Focus was on variety of pattern as well as varied line thickness and value blending. At the beginning of the lesson, the still life image was projected on screen to allow for large classes to view it in detail. We also saved the image on our Edmodo class page for easy access anytime!

This was specifically demonstrating drawing round things 3-D with cylinders and spheres. Also taught about overlapping and implied texture. We do a variety of activities with this inspiration from Cezanne’s still life paintings. My K-6 students got an art history lesson on Cézanne today. Their projects were master copies of a portion of one of his fruit still life paintings. We talked about how perfection was not his goal when it came to perspective or shape, but rather the overall design and composition. We studied several of his other works, and the kids pointed out some common themes (fruit, dark outlines, the color blue, visible marks). They did a great job with their study’s of Cézanne’s still life! Chalk Pastel Cézanne Still Life Art History Lesson

My K-6 students got an art history lesson on Cézanne today. Their projects were master copies of a portion of one of his fruit still life paintings. We talked about how perfection was not his goal when it came to perspective or shape, but rather the overall design and composition. We studied several of his other works, and the kids pointed out some common themes (fruit, dark outlines, the color blue, visible marks).
