The Power of The Blood of Jesus
Message preached by Doug Giles at Liberty Fellowship, Wimberly TX

Faith, like love, can lose its hold on the heart and mind when we neglect as commonplace what sparked it in the first place.
One of the things too easily taken for granted is the power of the blood of Christ.
First Jesus, and then others like Paul the Apostle, took the most painful and shameful death a Roman government could devise, and used it as a stage on which the story, power, love, and glory of a holy, self-sacrificing God could be fully displayed.
From 1 Corinthinans:
For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (ESV)
And later,
For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Paul wasn’t proclaiming some system of do’s and don’ts, or some set of religious affirmations. He was proclaiming that something SO special and history-changing happened on a Roman instrument of torture and execution that all whose lives were changed by it have since chosen that same instrument of torture as a representation of their belief.
But faith, like love, can fall into the kind of routine that blunts the power and passion of those intoxicating early days. Thriving churches can easily become museums of what God did in generations past.
Even the cross can lose its symbolic potency and become an art piece on a wall, a talisman against bad luck, shorthand for which religious group you belong to, or even a piece of jewelry that the most fire-breathing Christ-haters won’t think twice about wearing.
Today is a reset.
We’re pushing back against the routine-ness of that familiar symbol. Heading back to Square One, and seeing afresh what Paul saw when he poured out his life, peaching the power of Christ’s blood shed on the cross.
The PERFECT Gift For The Art Loving Warrior
Dear Fellow Warriors: My new book just dropped, GILES VOL. I: The Biblical Warrior Collection. It’s a full color coffee table compilation of my biblical paintings over the last 20yrs. As you know, I don’t depict the biblical men in this book as sweet bearded women but rough troublemakers who shook all of hell’s habitations. It’s a great gift for the male and female scrappy warriors on your Christmas list. Young kids will love it too. 70+ original paintings. 234 pages with the scriptural inspiration behind each painting. It’s a beautiful book.
RECOMMENDATIONS. “One reason I buy Doug’s priceless art is to make bold statements on the walls of my home. Lively discussions come alive to bring home the Gospel messages behind the brushstrokes gifted to Mr. Giles. Pastor Doug’s creativity in canvassing the Biblical perspective is daring and courageous.”
