The electrochemical test was made to analyze their resistance and predictability to corrosion from green dust samples, SPS samples and arc-melt alloying. The corrosion behavior in Ringer's solution was evaluated by Potentiodynamic polarization curves, electrochemical noise and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). Images were used to study corrosion behavior and corrosion predictability.

For the steel bars, the corrosion is the principal problem of durability in reinforced concrete. Coarse Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCA), Supplementary Cementing Materials (SCM) byproducts of industrial processes such as fly ash and silica fume were used to produce concrete with sustainability characteristics and for the evaluation of its behavior when it is exposed to chlorides. From the resulting test specimens: electrical resistivity, resistance to charge transfer and resistance to chloride ion penetration, were determined; these parameters specify the minimum necessary properties for concretes, according to regulations, to guarantee their durability when they are exposed to chlorides. The results obtained concluded that the concrete manufactured with 100% RCA and SCM, improves its performance in durability compared with those of conventional concrete.

Ti-15Mo was analyzed to understand the trend of titanium alloyed with another material. This study employs an adaptive fuzzy set to approach and predict behavior of titanium alloys. A fuzzy set prediction model has been employed to establish the relationship between electrochemical noise signals and properties of Ti-15Mo alloy. The predicted results obtained with fuzzy sets showed a better agreement with the experimental results, having a less maximum relative error.

Tested alloys included 50 (wt %) Ni-(20 and 25) Al-(20 and 25) Cu using the Hank´s solution. For comparison, 316L type stainless steel has also been evaluated. Electrochemical techniques included potentiodynamic polarization curves, linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and electrochemical noise measurements, EN. Different techniques have shown that, generally speaking, Ni-Al-Cu alloys showed a lower corrosion resistance than conventional 316L type stainless steel only during a few days. Their corrosion resistance decreased as the Cu content in the alloy decreased. The alloys were susceptible to pitting type of corrosion on the '-(Ni, Cu) 3 Al Curich phases.

ABSTRACT The H 2 S corrosion inhibition of X-120 pipeline steel by using carboxyethylimidazoline ... more ABSTRACT The H 2 S corrosion inhibition of X-120 pipeline steel by using carboxyethylimidazoline has been evaluated by using electrochemical techniques. Electrochemical techniques include polarization curves, linear polarization resistance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical noise measurements. Testing solutions includes H 2 S-containing 3% NaCl with different inhibitor concentrations (0, 16, 32, 80, 160 and 332 mol l -1) at 50 C. Different techniques have shown that by adding 160 mol l -1 of carboxyethylimidazoline the susceptibility to both uniform and localized corrosion decreases.

The effect ofOpuntia ficus-indica(Nopal) as green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl... more The effect ofOpuntia ficus-indica(Nopal) as green corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in 1 M HCl solution has been investigated by using weight loss tests, potentiodynamic polarization curves, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements. Also, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis were performed. The inhibitor concentrations used ranged from 0 to 300 ppm at 25, 40, and 60°C. Results indicated the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing extract concentration and decreases with the temperature, and the inhibitor acted as a cathodic-type inhibitor which is physically absorbed onto the steel surface. In fact, the adsorption of the inhibitor on the steel surface follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, indicating monolayer adsorption. The presence of heteroatoms such as C, N, and O and OH groups were responsible for the corrosion inhibition.

The terminals of an electronic device soldered to a printed circuit board by the wave process wer... more The terminals of an electronic device soldered to a printed circuit board by the wave process were analyzed in order to determine the causes of a short-circuit localized between these terminals. Using the techniques of Stereoscopy and Scanninig Electron Microscopy (SEM) we identify dendrites formed between the soldered joints of such terminals. The dendrites were formed by the presence of flux wastes that came from the tin-lead solder and the presence of moisture in the printed circuit board (PCB). When an electric field was applied to the printed circuit board ionic migration was promoted between the solder joints of the terminals, growing tin-lead dendrites coming from the solder applied on the terminals. The dendrites grew with time until they caused a short-circuit between the soldered joints, producing system failure.

Failure analysis was conducted on the cutting blades. Results indicate that the failure of the whole set was caused by the fracture of one blade by fatigue, whereas the others failed by impact from the debris generated from the first one. The metallographic analysis shows that the microstructure of the first blade was that of a martensitic matrix in which coarse M 23 C 6 carbides were present, yielding to a hard but brittle material.

ABSTRACT Graphitization kinetics in two commercial high carbon steels, AISI types 1075 and 1095, ... more ABSTRACT Graphitization kinetics in two commercial high carbon steels, AISI types 1075 and 1095, are studied by conducting a series of isothermal annealing treatments in the temperature range of 560 to 680‡ C for periods of time ranging from 20 to 500 h. The samples selected were collected along the processing route in a commercial production line dedicated to the fabrication of thin strip. The structures studied were those of hot rolling (consisting of fine pearlite), cold rolling (spheroidized carbides within a deformed ferritic matrix), and subcritical annealing (spheroidized carbides in undeformed ferrite). The samples obtained from hot rolled coils do not graphitize, whereas those cold rolled graphitize at a rate that depends on the type of steel and degree of deformation. No graphite was found in samples from the lower carbon steel, which were subcritically annealed, although they were observed in specimens from the other steel, which were cold rolled to a reduction of 50% prior to the subcritical annealing.

After milling nanostructures about 100 nm grain sizes were obtained. Increment in mechanical properties was observed in all composites synthesized. The reinforcement nanoparticles were distributed homogeneously into the Al2024 matrix by mechanical milling process. The yield strength (σy) and Brinell hardness (HB), of the nanocomposites increased as the nanoparticles content was increased as well.
