I think you can get pretty comfortable applying handles in about 3 years … sorry not years I mean weeks 😂… actually it doesn’t take as long as you think. If you keep the starting lump the same each time. And attach as many handles as you can to cups you are making … say 4 handles per cup, then recycle it and repeat a few times. You’ll soon get really comfortable doing it. Freshly carved, the handle whittled after spending a few days beneath plastic wraps, slowly drying, the soft handle acclimatising to the firmer body of the cup. I don’t carve every handled vessel I make, but sometimes, a little work goes a long way, and in this case, it helped to perfect the curve on the underside greatly, especially how it interacts with ledge on the top join.
