LIFESTYLE: Holistic Health & Wellness (ACTION BOARD)

Wellness and living a healthy life have evolved to represent more than being physically fit. No longer is it enough to make it to the gym and sweat. Today, being healthy and alive involves a more complex and systematic approach that integrates states of physical, mental and spiritual well-being. Many health experts believe in a theory of wellness that evolved from several crucial areas of healthiness that compliment one another to provide a well balanced, vital and prosperous life. Health is more than having a body that looks proper. It entails physical, emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual, and even occupational/vocational dimensions. When these dimensions are working in harmony, they contribute to a sense of well-being satisfaction and overall balance Category Development: (Physical) —Maintaining a sound substantial body through regular exercise, proper nutrition, sleeping well and avoiding harmful habits. Maintaining a consistent well-rounded exercise program is crucial to physical wellness. (Mental/Emotional) —Being in touch with your emotional presence and being aware and comfortable with your own thoughts and feelings. Emotional wellness relies on being able to express one’s thoughts and sensations and to be able to absorb those of others. Through Maintaining good personal mental health, a positive attitude, and high self-esteem; In other words it entails responding with resiliency to emotional states and everyday life (Spiritual/environmental ) —Having a sense that life is meaningful and has a purpose and that we are guided in our journey. Spiritual wellness is about embracing the meta-physical and reaching beyond the physical realm of existence and experiences. Which means getting in touch with our deeper self and the spiritual dimension of our life, developing faith in something larger than ourselves, finding meaning and purpose behind every self care undertaking and so forth. We may not think much about Environmental Wellness as part of an overall wellness plan, but our environment and how we feel about it can also have a huge impact on the way we feel overall in body mind and soul. Environmental well-being includes trying to live in harmony with the Earth by understanding the impact of our interaction with nature ,our personal environment, and taking action to protect the world around us.Protecting ourselves from environmental hazards and minimizing the negative impact of our behaviour on the environment are also central elements. Examples of environmental threats include air pollution, ultraviolet radiation in the sunlight, chemicals, noise, water pollution, and second-hand smoke. Achieving Environmental Wellness involves a number of different aspects of personal and societal responsibilities, including: Being aware of the earth's natural resources and their respective limits Living a life accountable to environmental needs, both in the present and in the long-term Realizing the effects of daily habits on the world around us. Environmental Wellness is the ability to recognize our own responsibility for the quality of the air, the water and the land that surrounds us. The ability to make a positive impact on the quality of our environment, be it our homes, our communities & overallour planet contributes to our Environmental Wellness. (Occupational/vocational/intellectual & Social ) -Occupational Wellness is the ability to get personal fulfillment from our jobs or our chosen career fields while still maintaining balance in our lives. Our desire to contribute in our careers to make a positive impact on the organizations we work in and to society as a whole leads to Occupational Wellness. .Intellectual Wellness is the ability to open our minds to new ideas and experiences that can be applied to personal decisions, group interaction and community betterment. The desire to learn new concepts, improve skills and seek challenges in pursuit of lifelong learning contributes to our Intellectual Wellness. An intellectually well person:Cherishes mental growth and stimulation Is involved in productive, intellectual and cultural activities, Is engaged in the exploration of new ideas and understandings As you develop your intellectual curiosity, you'll actively strive to expand and challenge your mind with creative endeavors. It involves using good communications skills, having meaningful relationships, respecting yourself and others, and creating a support system that includes family members and friends. Social wellness follows these tenets: It is better to contribute to the common welfare of our community than to think only of ourselves. It is better to live in harmony with others and our environment than to live in conflict with them. Etc..
