Unused Trainer data

This list covers unused Trainer classes in the Pokémon games.
Generation I
Prof. Oak
Unused Trainer data for Prof. Oak (Japanese: オーキドせんせい Teacher Ōkido) exists in all Generation I games. His Japanese title differs from his title in the finished games: オーキドはかせ Dr. Ōkido.
Prof. Oak has data for three different teams using different first partner Pokémon. Each team has five Pokémon: a level 66 Tauros, a level 67 Exeggutor, a level 68 Arcanine, a level 70 Gyarados, and one of the Kanto first partner Pokémon at level 69. This places his strength on par with Blue, who is the Pokémon Champion and grandson of Professor Oak. Additionally, Exeggutor, Arcanine, and Gyarados are identical to Pokémon Blue can use in Pokémon Red and Blue except that they have a higher level. It is possible that he was meant to be a late-game opponent, perhaps in the same manner as Red in Generation II. An email on the PC in Professor Oak's Laboratory from the Indigo League (issuing a challenge to all Trainers and specifically requesting Oak to come visit them) may be seen as supporting this.
There are no preset dialogues for before Prof. Oak's battle or after defeating him.

These battles can be triggered in different ways.
- By performing the Ditto glitch using a Pokémon with a Special stat of 226 if the wild Ditto's Attack is lowered by 4, 5, or 6 stages (each number of stages will yield a different team; in order: Charizard, Venusaur, or Blastoise).
- By performing the Old man glitch with a player's name containing the MN character in the third, fifth or seventh slots, Professor Oak can be battled as a glitch Trainer; however, he will not have a defined roster.
- By performing a specific select button glitch in the Japanese Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue.

Chief
Chief[1] (Japanese: シルフのチーフ Silph's Chief) is an unused Trainer class in the Generation I games. In the Japanese game data, チーフ (Chief) is also present in the list of shortened Trainer class names.
The Japanese name can also be found in unused text for the Safari Zone Area 2 rest house. This line was translated in Western localizations (but still unused) as Silph's manager.[2] In addition, a Team Rocket Grunt in the unnamed Game Corner warehouse in Celadon City mentions Chief (チーフ) while bragging about their achievements.[3]
Chief has neither a defined sprite nor a programmed party. When battled, his sprite appears as that of a Scientist due to its Trainer class being directly after Chief in the game's data.
Chief can be battled using the Ditto glitch and a Pokémon with a Special stat of 227, or through the use of the old man glitch when the player's name contains a dash in the third, fifth, or seventh letter slot in English Pokémon Red and Blue.
Generation III
Archie and Maxie
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire contain several unused Trainer parties, most notably Archie and Maxie. Archie's team consists of a level 17 Huntail and a level 17 Sharpedo, while Maxie's consists of a level 17 Torkoal and a level 17 Camerupt; both have two Super Potions. In the final game, Archie never uses a Huntail and Maxie never uses a Torkoal, and their first encounters are at a higher level than these unused parties.
Pokémon Colosseum
Trainer Parties
Several level 100 Pokémon teams with blank movesets would have been used by the Snagem Head class, but go completely unused.
Rui
Rui interestingly has a Trainer headshot and model for standing behind Pokémon in battles, complete with an animation for losing. She might have been battled at one point in time.[4]
Generation IV
Barry
In the code of Pokémon Platinum, there exists a variation of Barry's Survival Area weekend battle team that is 10 levels higher than his initial weekend battle team, but it is completely inaccessible through normal gameplay. The levels of this team approximately match the levels of Barry's weekend battles from Diamond and Pearl after the player has entered the Hall of Fame 10 times.

- Swimmers (Japanese: みずぎカップル Swimsuit Couple): this Trainer class was later introduced in Generation VII's Pokémon Sun and Moon.
