Some finishing touches....

I have done the last of my 9 patch swap blocks last week....

These are them all together and they are off in the post to Trish to share out.... thanks Trish.... i am so looking forward to my bundle made by bloggy 9 patchers...

These are so easy to do in strips ... sew the 3 strips together, press, slice and stitch the 3 rows - the points come together well (mostly!).

I am using the left overs plus other fabric from this range (Judie Rothermalls 25th Anniversary) for my Aiming for Accuracy quilt-along blocks seen a couple of posts ago

this is the latest of the A4A blocks

I started this applique last week and just finished these needlecases.  They are from Anorina's 52 week Scrap project
(tutorial HERE)

they are so cute it was impossible to stop at one

Anorina is giving us lots of different ideas for using up scraps.... and we've just started so there will be lots more to come!

... and I have finally add the binding to this small quilt (a UFO from last year) with lots of pieces (484 to be exact!) ...

.... which I am calling Organised Chaos ...

...... made from New York Beauty blocks free tutorials on line... (links to the different blocks can be
 found HERE)

It's a maroon stripey binding which is not clear in the picture but gives it a bit of a border

An adventure into paper piecing and I had a bit of fun with the quilting... quite heavy so the finished article is stiff....

It's not very big (36" x 29") so will use for a topper and the stiff quilting won't matter....

Righto, Gotto go.... I want to finish prepping the rest of my North Pole blocks and get to work on that

....and some secret stuff which you can't see ....

and it's .....

Cured.....

In May last year I first started doing these foundation paper piecing blocks and did another one quite quickly

Worked hard again in July and got several more done.... and then the block each month kindof dwindled until I picked it up again this week....

(Just click on the links if you would like to see the previous blocks in more detail)

I was determined this week to finish off the blocks....

and AbraCaDabra...mix them all together

My door peeper is so useful - gives a different view and I could see a block wrong way around...

Played around with placement.... every time I looked at it I saw something else I am not happy with....
I will just have to live with it ... can never get random properly random!  Whatever I do there are colours that are the same together....

that's 484 little pieces of fabric in there
you can count them if you like

30" x 37.5" approx (I am yet to add the borders)

I'm not really sure if I like it or not
sometimes I look at it and I love it
other times I feel a bit queasy

... but I think I have cured my addictive foray into foundation piecing....

Righto, Gotto Go....... I need calming tea after all that..... and lavender drops on my pillow ...

Another addiction?

I certainly could get addicted to making these cute little owls

a lovely pattern I won from Tracee at Quilt Kitty Loves Life

If you don't know Tracee it worth going by... lots of fun at her place and lovely things to read about

Thanks for this Tracee - I adore them

I don't need to get addicted to colourwash

My friend up the road was having a clean out... this was going off to the charity shop... and I persuaded her that I was a very worthwhile charity....

isn't it fun.... just needs a border or two ..... I think she will be sorry she gave it away.... I might have to give it back!!! hmmmmm

I have spent some time catching up on doing some blocks I started last year.....

..... I have not been very enthusiastic......

lots of tiny little pieces I can't use

lots of little pieces of paper to remove

lots of pins required to hold it together

lots of careful sewing on lines

lots of time required for an 8" block (like an hour per inch!)

66 little pieces of fabric in these two

tutorial for this block found HERE

as you can see I neglected to do the reversal thing so the blocks don't fit together

.... but .....
... they match like this.....

is this a new addiction?

Righto, Gotto Go... still more little stitches to sew, little papers to remove, little scraps to chuck and big bits of time to find....

I like it in boosted colours

New York Beauty ......

I have spent the weekend concentrating on my New York Beauty project which is Foundation Paper Pieced....
This was started as a Quilt A Long which I didn't manage to keep up with

Block 6's tutorial found HERE

Block 7's tutorial found HERE

Block 8's tutorial found HERE

A quick shuffle of the blocks so far......

.... a bit of Colourful Chaos ......

All the block patterns are found HERE

The other blocks can be found in THIS post and THIS post... and the links to their tutorials

I'm up to 298 pieces in this one!!

Of course I still need to do some handsewing in the evenings and I have caught up on the Home Sweet Home Penny Rug by Melody

I did make a change to the little snowman Melody did - up here where I live in Queensland we don't get snow... in fact I have only seen snow one visit to the UK.... and this is what happened......

Grandiboy had to go in the blizzard with Nana

Thanks Melody.... the patterns are in her side bar if you would like...never too late!

My daughter likes to give me a challenge every now and then.... this is her latest
(not sure where she found this picture but I love it)

no... I'm not going to try that one but isn't it a lot of fun?  It does make me wish I knew something about upholstery....

Righto.... Gotto Go... there are still 4 more sets of blocks... but I'll give it a bit of a break now

Month end .......

I liked Sharon and Maria's idea of an end of month post with finishes for the month to go towards OPAM which Kris and Peg host.....

These are my finishes this month.....

bookmarks, crowns & tiara's, selvage chook
hexagon needlecases, zippy bag, friends hanging
shoe bag.....

I wanted 9 pictures to fit the collage so I filled up the spaces with food..... some scones and home made vanilla!!

OPAM counts up the actual finished items each month.... the hexagons are a finished UFO from last year

I have also finished some of my monthly blocks....

Harrington & Hannah can be found at Shell's ......

this is where I am up to now with all of these....

and another block for the New York Beauty paper piecing .... the tutorial for this block is found HERE

really playing with colour in this one

Righto, Gotto Go.... June to prepare for .....

I'm looking forward to a trip to BrisVegas this weekend... meeting up with bloggers - will be such fun
for those of you in SE Qld (or visiting the area) here are the details

Something New......

For a while now I have been admiring foundation paper piecing projects ... and been watching an online stitchalong.....

I have finally plucked up the courage to cut into some lovely fat quarters I was lucky enough to win last year...
(and a few more pieces that I have added)

This is Block 0 and Kim's Tutorial is HERE

I am going to try for 2 of each block... at the end I should have 20 blocks which will be a great start to a quilt....
and depending on how far the fabric goes it might even be a bigger quilt

Here is Block 5 which was the second one on the list .............. tutorial found HERE

The step by step pictoral tutorials really make it easy for a beginner like me to follow

I am WAYYYYYY behind the schedule.... but am really rather excited about this completely different style and set of fabrics ....

(I was not careful enough in this second one... can you see the yellow fabric was a bit short in places so I may need to make an extra one of these!!)

They take me ages... but are SOOOOOO much fun

.... oh... and I have started playing with my collection of selvages...

... some things just make me smile....

I do hope your weekend was excellent... we have had a long weekend here... and I'm still enjoying it....

Righto.... Gotto Go.... more foundation piecing to print out...
