Scuff-sand with 120 grit to remove old shiny finish and roughen up surface for better paint adherence 3. Paint on a layer of primer and then scuff-sand by hand with 220 grit. (If you’re using a high quality paint with primer + topcoat included you can skip this step!) 4. Paint! (Contains affiliate links!) HOW I DID IT: -removed hardware and cleaned with a degreaser -sanded to raw wood with a 120 then 220 grit and my @festool_usa sander! -applied a tan paint wash followed by the stain “antique oak” by @generalfinishes -topcoated it, hated it so went in with “van dyke brown” glaze by @generalfinishes to even out the color. (It worked!) topcoat again with @minwaxusa polycrylic -painted the top black to hide the massive damage - spray painted and rubbed gliding wax on original hardware to get the perfect antique look I personally love how this one turned out and I’m glad I got to
