According to the World Health Organization, India ranks 19 th in the top suicidal countries with China, Russia, United States, Japan and South Korea in the world. The suicide rate in India is 16.4 per 100,000 for women (6 th highest) and 25.8 for men (ranking 22 nd ). This trend is seen both the age groups of 15-29 years and 15-39 years and requires a greater amount of awareness among the people about the causes, effects and steps that can be taken to reduce the number of suicides.
