The article is about the street art and especially graffiti art in the times of political turmoil... more The article is about the street art and especially graffiti art in the times of political turmoil. We provide a brief information about the street art, who street artist is and how others and street artists perceive street art. Then we give some background information about the street art in Turkey, mostly from Ankara and Istanbul. Some crews and artists from the street art. After this perpetual parts we introduce and discuss the sentence from McLuhan’s “medium is the message” and try to associate with the street art with respect to we can perceive walls as an alternative medium. We investigate the street art and its forms in the times of Occupy Gezi Movement and give some examples which make us clear about different aspects of the situations in those times and the essence of street art. Throughout our article we try to give our examples from Turkey in accordance to limit our subject and also the motivation behind this article is the experiences and observations we get in the times of Gezi Park Protests. We propose that street art becomes more condensed at time times of political turmoil, and we can also see that in the other countries in the world like Greece (resemblance between the death of Alexis Kougias from Greece and Berkin Elvan from Turkey). This article also aims to show the power of street art on the society. Even if it does not directly or physical effect on people, it actually catalyze the present situation either in a way that encouraging or discouraging, so it actually affects people psychologically.
