Moshe Morad, Ph.D., is an ethnomusicologist, lecturer, author and radio broadcaster. His radio and TV experience includes presenting various popular music and World Music shows in Israel, as well as cintrubuting to World Music programmes on BBC Radio 3 between 2003-2013, including presenting its “on locations” episodes in Jordan, Israel, Athens and Istanbul. He is currently employed by the Israeli Public Service Broadcasting Corporation, as the host of various daily and weekly World Music radio shows. Morad’s vast experience in the music industry includes having been managing director of CBS/NMC Music, global marketing director at EMI Music , and head of EMI’s World Music label “Hemisphere”.Moshe completed his Ph.D. at SOAS, University of London, and currently lectures in Ethnomusicology, World Music, Popular Music, African Music, Latin American Music, Queer Ethnomusicology, Popular Music Studies, and the Music Industry. He is the author of Fiesta de Diez Pesos: Music and Gay Identity in Special Period Cuba (winner of the SEM Marcia Herndon Book Prize 2016, and the Alan Merriam Book Prize honorable mention 2015). Moshe currently teaches at Ben Gurion University, and at Ono Academic College in Israel.

However, the "new revolution" had already started, as this book clearly shows, and Cuba has been undergoing a state of transition since the early '90s. Furthermore, "transition" and "change" are not new concepts in Cuban history.

Seeger is obviously a 20th-century American cultural figure of the highest order, an artist and activist whose career spanned Old Left to New, Woody Guthrie to Bruce Springsteen, FDR to Obama. One could teach a class on the cultural history of the United States, 1930-2010, and base it effectively around Seeger's life. The syllabus would encompass the Depression, the US left's debates over the Soviet Union, McCarthyism, the civil rights movement, McCarthyism, the New Left's move from collectivism to an emphasis on individual "liberation," antiwar politics, environmental activism, even Barack Obama and the notion of the "postracial" era. The Pete Seeger Reader tells this story, and should help make Seeger a classroom presence in the way that he deserves. The form of the book is a compilation of documents, largely articles and reviews from the mainstream and folk-music press, largely about rather than by Seeger, that add up to a kind of biography-in-exhibits. The editors, folk music scholars Ronald Cohen and the late Jim Capaldi (former webmaster of PeteSeeger.net), have done a masterful job of locating and assembling these pages, whose sources range from Newsweek and Rolling Stone to long forgotten, tiny fan sheets put out by folk-music aficionados. The documents, alongside the editors' framing commentary, take us from Seeger's youth as a faculty brat, to his work with Woody Guthrie and the Almanac Singers, to his commercial breakout with the Weavers, to his valiant battle against the House Un-American Activities Committee, into his later focus on environmental issues, and all the way to up to his participation in a 30-block march, at the age of 92, in support of Occupy Wall Street. Proceeding chronologically, Cohen and Capaldi insert detailed headnotes that frame the documents in groups of two or three. The collection is
