Karanja Keita Carroll
Dr. Karanja Keita Carroll is currently a faculty member in the Department of Black and Latinx Studies at Baruch College (CUNY). He has taught the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz, Hunter College, Seton Hall University, Temple University and other 2-4 year colleges between in NY and NJ. His teaching and research interests investigate and advance African-centered theory & methodology, with an emphasis on social and psychological theory.
His publications have appeared in the Journal of Pan African Studies, Journal of the International Society of Teacher Education, Critical Sociology and Race, Gender & Class. He is also Associate Editor of the Journal of Pan African Studies.
Dr. Carroll is an African-centered social theorist who is thoroughly committed to the African-centered imperative, one that is grounded in the creation and utilization of culturally-specific frameworks in order to understand and create solutions for humanity.
Beyond academia, Dr. Carroll tries to share and spread what he has learned with those outside of the “ivory tower.” Since arriving in the New York's mid-Hudson Valley in 2006, he regularly lectures at the local public libraries, along with Wallkill and Shawangunk Correctional Facilities.
Dr. Carroll is committed to “academic excellence and social responsibility” as originally articulated by the National Council for Black Studies.
