So on today's project, we're gonna be sealing up this little gap here. It's where the concrete slabs in the basement bump into the foundation and these are the products we're gonna use to seal up the gap. You're gonna need some Sicaflex self-leveling and some backer rod. The backer rod is similar to like pool noodles and what that's gonna do is that it's just gonna fill up that gap a little bit more. That way I don't have to use a lot of that Secaflex self-leveling. You know, you could save a little bit of money there but anyways, as you saw there, I used my screwdriver just to loosen up a lot of the dirt and debris that was in the crack, vacuumed it up. Got the backer rod AKA pool noodle and just kinda stuffed it in just make sure it doesn't go above the high point of a concrete there because I don't want it to be noticeable once I put that Sicaflex self leveling I want everything to be under the high point it's gonna smooth out you'll see right here and you're probably wondering why there's a big old gap there so what happened was that the homeowners started to notice the slabs kinda dipping in they were kinda they probably didn't compact the floor enough or I'm not 100% sure, but they hired a company to come and lift those concrete slabs up I'm not sure if you've seen those videos where they kinda drill holes on the concrete and they put some kind of foam like pressurized form in it and it lifts the concrete. It actually looks pretty good and it also saves a lot of money from you having to like redo the whole concrete slabs there but anyways, the homeowner was happy with the work they did but this little area that I'm repairing, they weren't too happy with it because they saw like little spiders or critters, ants, and stuff coming out of there. So, they just wanted it sealed and I don't know if it's just me but every time I work with Sica Flex, there's something oddly satisfying about it because once you apply it, it kinda goes on a little thick but then, it kinda spreads itself out and it kinda levels itself out hence the term self leveling and in my opinion, is probably the best solution to seal the gap up and also make it look good at the same time or at least not such an eyesore. The homeowner also liked the fact that there's not gonna be any insects or spiders hiding in there. They were actually in the process of setting up their sauna here in the basement but they just wanted this little area to be complete and if there's ever any movement, you could always just kinda do the same thing I did. I doubt the gap's gonna be that big but you could always use, you know, that back rod, more it might be a maintenance issue down the road but for now, they're super happy. They didn't have to spend a lot of trying to you know tear off that concrete slab and then put new concrete down there. It is way way more affordable what we did here and the homeowners super super happy with the project. They saved a couple bucks and they helped out small business so appreciate that.
