14K views · 1K reactions | Dear Gymnastics: Sitting on and squishing your toes isn’t what contributes to a better shape, so please stop. Often, it’s lack of movement and control in the many, many joints of the foot and ankle. Especially the ankle, aka talocrural joint, which is usually neglected when working on developing a pointier point. This is what these drills are intended to change. The key to success with them is SPECIFICITY. Be precise, be intentional: ✅ Circles: Make as smooth a circle as possible without moving your lower leg. This drill is actually quite hard… try it. ✅ Lines: Imagine an actual line that gets longer and longer or include a physical target and try to reach it ✅ Twisty: Keep a fair amount of pressure on the ball of the foot and toes, don’t let them slide or move. The leg is straight but not locked, and rotate from the hip. For dancers, this one can help w a higher releve and getting over the box more in 🩰. The details matter. 🤓 ☝️AND: Jammed joints diminish muscular output, so you might also notice more spring, more speed or power after these as well. 🧠🤝🤸🏻‍♀️ | Yuka Sugiura, Gymnastics Neuroperformance Coach

103K views · 11K reactions | Getting used to a new teacher is never an easy thing. New ideas, new methodology, new direction… it takes time to build trust but once that chemistry is established it’s incredible what can be accomplished 💥💪 Just had a wicked day teaching @addictdanceacademy and I asked these two dancers to stay to film so I don’t forget this combo by next week 😂 They were so good and had taken my many notes throughout the class on so well I just wanted to show it. This is only their second class with me and a pirouette exercise that we’ve only spent 20 minutes on but you can see how good this is gonna be. What I’ve loved about today more than anything is how open and honest these students are. Loads of amazing questions and requests for tips on problematic step, positions etc. my kind ballet class! Plus they’ve remembered all of my tips from the first week which is always super productive, as I can keep that technical growth and athletic development moving forward and increase the difficulty of my exercises. Bravo to the students today, particularly these 2 dancers who volunteered to help me film (without knowing what they were getting themselves into) My life has completely changed in the last 6 months and I’m now working with approximately 350 students per week in my various endeavours, but you know what…. I’m just loving being back teaching! Looking forward to getting at it again tomorrow 💥 #ballet #dance #balletdancer #balletteacher #dancers #classicalballet #danceclass #danceteacher #dancer #dancelife #dancing #dancevideo #performingarts | Martin Howland

Was so wonderful to work with all those amazing kids and how impressed every teacher was with their commitment, focus and determination. This is not an easy exercise so there were a few wobbles. But that’s how we learn to stay on balance! Mistakes make us stronger 👍 that’s how we learn 😃 Can’t wait to work to this track in our new studios with our new sound system..,, that’s going to be epic 💥 #ballet #balletclass #dance #dancers #balletdancer #balletteacher #danceclass #danceteacher #classicalballet #plié #balletlovers | Martin Howland | Brian Justin Crum · Never Enough
