The aim of this study was to assess the effect of synthesis stimulator (salicylic acid) and bio-stimulants (moringa extract, seaweed extract) on growth, yield and quality of Roselle, Hibiscus sabdariffa L., plants. The recorded growth parameter included plant height, number of lateral branches per plant, branch diameter, and leaf area. For yield traits, the calyxes' fresh and dry weight was recorded. Leaf pigments included chlorophyll a, b, and carotenoids. Anthocyanin content in calyxes was measured. The experiment was conducted during 2018 and 2019 seasons, and was designed in completely randomized system. The results showed that application of bio-stimulants showed positive effects on all traits, and the best results were shown under treatment of seaweed, followed by moringa leaves extract. There were positively associations of calyxes yield and its anthocyanin content with other growth traits and photosynthetic pigments. These results highlighted the important role of biostimulants, especially seaweed extract, as a bioactive stimulant. Therefore, it is recommended to include seaweed extract in fertilization programs for achieving sustainable production system of such crops.

This research was conducted over two seasons in 2018 and 2019 and aimed to investigate the influence of varying irrigation intervals and partial replacement of mineral fertilizers with biofertilizer (yeast) on the growth, yield, and essential oil content of lemongrass. The study also looked at the effect of the partial substitution of NPK fertilizer with yeast on lemongrass’s ability to withstand water deficit stress. The results showed that water deficit and reducing NPK levels led to a decline in growth characteristics and relative leaf greenness, which was accompanied by an increase in proline content and essential oil percentage. These findings suggest that lemongrass is sensitive to drought and requires adequate nitrogen fertilization. However, extending the irrigation intervals led to an improvement in essential oil co...

Bio-stimulants play a vital role in the sustainable development of horticultural crops. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of nano zinc and bio-stimulants (salicylic acid, moringa extract, seaweed extract) on growth, yield, and quality of roselle plants. The experiment was conducted during 2018 and 2019 and was a completely randomized split-plot design. Nano zinc oxide of 0, 5, 10, and 15 ppm was used as the main plot, and bio-stimulants were used as the sub-plot. The results showed that application of nano zinc led to significant increases in growth, yield, photosynthetic pigments, as well as anthocyanin content associated with increased zinc content in leaves. The highest values of all traits occurred under treatment of 10 ppm of nano zinc. Also, bio-stimulants showed positive effects on all traits, and the best results were achieved under treatment with seaweed, followed by moringa extract. The correlation coefficients showed significant positive correlations among calyxes yield and anthocyanin and zinc content as well as with other growth traits and photosynthetic pigments. These results highlighted the important role of nano zinc in improving the growth, yield, and quality of the roselle plant, as well as the positive effects of seaweed as a bioactive stimulant. Therefore, it is recommended to include nano zinc and seaweed extract in fertilization programs for achieving a sustainable production system of such crops.

More than half of the agricultural land worldwide suffers from a lack of water. In this study, we estimated the effect of different irrigation intervals on growth, yield, and essential oil content as well as their effect on the main compounds of the essential oil of lemongrass, Cymbopogon citratus. The major objective was to test how much irrigation consumption can be lowered without a significant impact on yield and quality properties. Water deficit led to significant decreases in growth characteristics including the number of tillers as well as fresh and dry herb yield. In addition, the relative leaf greenness decreased under water deficit, especially in plants irrigated every 20 days. In contrast, proline content increased with increasing water deficit, especially in plants irrigated every 15 and 20 days. Essential oil percentage also increased under a water deficit condition, and the highes...

Chamomile flower heads were dried using five different methods: sunlight for 72 h; shade for 1 week; oven at 40 °C for 72 h; solar dryer for 72 h; and microwave for 5 min. Drying methods had slight and nonsignificant impacts on dry biomass of flower heads. The highest percentages of oil in flowers (0.35–0.50%) were observed after solar-drying methods, and the lowest percentage of oil was found after microwave drying (0.24–0.33%). Drying methods significantly influenced the number of identified compounds. The maximum was identified after solar drying (21 compounds), while the lowest was identified after microwave drying (13 compounds), which revealed the solar ability to preserve compounds in contrast to microwave, which crushed the compounds. Major compounds were α-bisabolol oxide A (33.0–50.5%), (Z)-tonghaosu (10.0–18.7%...

This study sought to assess the quality and yield characterizes of black cumin under different locations through Egypt to introduce final analysis information for producers and exporters in Egypt. Methods: This experiment was carried out in seven sites in different locations through Egypt to assess the growth, yield and essential oil content of black cumin plants as following; four sites in El-Minya Governorate, two sites in Bahariya Oasis, and one site in Aswan Governorate. Results: Cultivation locations significantly affected on quality and growth characteristics. The highest seed and fixed oil yields (830 kilogram seeds and 206 kilogram fixed oil) were observed under clay loam soil (Old Land farm), while the lowest yields (500 kilogram seeds and 105 kilogram fixed oil) were observed under sandy soil (El-Nanaaih farm) at El-Menya. The highest content of active substance (Fixed oil %) was obser...
