Art Deco Fashion, 1910 - 1939

In 1907 Paul Poiret's slim & tubular designs heralded a new era in fashion. The corseted S-bend Art Nouveau silhouette eventually gave way to this straight style. Inspired by the Ballets Russes/orientalism, Fauvism & Cubism; the directoire & cocoon silhouettes of the pre-war era (1910 -1914) encapsulated the spirit of early Art Deco. Ballets Russe influenced styles continued into the 20s, but were replaced by the garconne look around 1925.Streamlined bias cut dresses were in vogue in the 1930s.
