CELEBRATED CHRISTMAS CARDS
I’ve been known to choose
lovely Christmas cards to send out to family & friends such as this cheerful
neighborhood scene.
Or this snowy one in the
town of Groveland, California where we lived for 28 years.
This was the card we sent
for Christmas the year we met “Ella”, the little pigeon who suddenly flew into
our lives. I couldn’t have found a more
perfect card. J
And this one went out the
year my Dad passed away shortly before Christmas. It just seemed so right.
Mostly, though, I like
cards with a bit of humor. This was the
first card we sent out after my husband and I were married. I forget how many I had to make with the
combined list of his family & friends and mine, but it was quite a few
& took a while!
A few years later I drew
this one. I saw a set of boxed cards
similar to this but they were too expensive so I decided to make our own with a
few added touches! J
“In brief, Merry
Christmas”
I especially love her
Hippo cards.
Then there’ve been the
inexpensive cards I’ve doctored up to make them special like this one featuring
the 12 days of Christmas unlike you’ve known them before.
Each of these cards had
only one or two remarks assigned to different geese with explanations penned in
at the bottom of the card. L-R: *Harold was cool; *Clarrisa was having a little
trouble getting into the Christmas spirit; *Louie’s lips were beginning to
fade; *Mercedes understood the true meaning of the season; & *Poor Joe
couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag.
A star is born! Shoot the moon!!
This parody on Christmas letters was the card that started me writing a Christmas letter every year – trying, as much as possible, to keep it humorous and not mention too much negative stuff, but if I had to mention negative stuff, I tried (and try) to find some kind of humor in it if I can. J
The following was our parody on the parody that year.
I stood at the Christmas cards
display for a long time trying to figure this card out and when I finally did, I
decided everyone on our Christmas card list should be challenged with this
clever card.
“Silent Knight. Holy Knight”
Stonehouse Christmas card
collections are fun. We’ve sent a few of
their cards out over the years. J
“Yes folks, it looks like
it’s going to be an exciting Christmas.”
Oh, that Vixen - what a
tease.
Now we’re getting into the kind of snarky but playful cards we’ve had fun with over the years.
“But do I get any credit? Nooooooo!”
This one may be a bit irreverent, but it’s still chuckle-worthy. J
“Live long and prosper, and may you not receive too many fruitcakes.”
(unless, of course, they’re the kind my Grandma used to make!)
And then there’s this card featuring my all-time favorite “Star Trek” character and since I just mentioned my Grandma Louise’s fruitcake a couple of posts ago, I felt it was the perfect way to end this one.
We were a little more
sentimental this year, however . . .
Great goodness of mine (my goodness gracious, sort of)! These are all so fun and full of new twists on wishing fun and happiness of the season. I'm sure all of your friends and family enjoyed them. Hope your Yule and Christmas are just as much fun this year!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful collection! And I admire your creativity but I don't know whether the goldfish agrees with me (if it was forced to travel down the toilet). Here, the tradition of sending Christmas cards is slowly replaced by sending gifs en videos via Whatsapp. Ever increasing postage rates have certainly added to this. But looking at your collection I know what my preference is! Wishing you the very best for 2025!
ReplyDeleteThis was an absolutely priceless holiday post! It was one laugh right after another. Thanks for an enjoyable Christmas Eve! Happy Holidays and New Year to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteHo, Ho, Ho! LOL! Thanks for giving us a laugh or two, or twenty+ probably. "Serves 3" was my favorite punch line. For the past 30 some years I've created a homemade family holiday card too. I may take up this challenge next year and offer my collection as a Sepia Saturday post. I wish you and your family enjoy all the best of Christmas cheer and good luck in the new year.
ReplyDeleteTerrific cards, love the humor in the newsletter. Happy New Year.
