Ma... more Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) is an international standard for digital television services. Many versions of DVB are available for commercial use including DVB-H, DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T, and DVB-IPTV. In this paper we focus on the performances of DVB-T system. In DVB-T system Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has been used. The OFDM can minimize Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) and hence it is considered suitable for coping with multipath fading. Like all other OFDM based systems DVB-T signal has some limitations too namely large dynamic range of the signals, sensitivity to frequency error, and high peak to average ratio. It is shown in this paper that the system performance of the DVB-T system highly depends on the pulse shaping filter used in transmitter. Hence, a careful selection of pulse shaping filter is very important for DVB-T system in order to overcome the above mentioned limitations. It is also shown in this paper that the performance of DVB-T system in terms of Bit Error Rate (BER) can be significantly improved provided appropriate pulse shaping filters are chosen.

Many ground breaking applications have been suggested for MANETs including the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). In order to support VoIP application over MANETs a suitable routing protocol is essential. Several routing protocols have been proposed for MANETs. In this paper, the performances of different routing protocols have been investigated and compared for VoIP application. Some popular routing protocols namely Dynamic Source Routing (DSR), Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Temporally-Ordered Routing Algorithm (TORA), Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR), and Geographic Routing Protocol (GRP) have been considered in this investigation. The OPNET simulation results show that the TORA protocol is a good candidate for VoIP application.

OWDM has lower computational complexity and higher flexibility compared to its OFDM counterpart. The core component of OWDM is wavelet. Wavelet has been a much investigated and applied topic in digital image processing for a long time. Recently, it has drawn considerable attention of the researchers working in communication field. In this work we investigate the performances of OWDM under different channel conditions. We consider three channel conditions namely Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN), Rayleigh, Ricean, and frequency selective. We consider a number of wavelets namely Haar, Daubechies, Biorthogonal, Reverse Biorthogonal, Coiflets, and Symlets in OWDM design. For system model we choose Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T). Originally DVB-T system was designed based on OFDM. In this work we use OWDM instead. The simulation results show OWDM outperforms OFDM in terms of bit error rate (BER), noise resiliency, and peak-to-average ration. The results also show that the Haar wavelet based OWDM outperforms other wavelets based OWDM system under all three considered three channel conditions.

The proposed system functions in two steps. First, it discriminates pathological voices from healthy ones, and then, it classifies the discriminated pathological voices into one of the three pathologies. Two CNNs are used for these purposes; one works as a binary classifier to identify pathological voices. The other one works as a multiclass classifier for categorizing the voice pathologies. This work investigates the effectiveness of electroglottographic (EGG) and speech signals to detect and classify pathological voices using sustained vowel ('/a/') samples. EGG signals can assess the vibratory pattern of the vocal folds during voiced sound. On the other hand, the speech signals add spectral color to the EGG signals. Hence, their contributions for pathology identification and segregation differ, as demonstrated in this work. The SaarbrĂĽcken Voice Database (SVD) is used in this investigation. The results show that the proposed system achieves a higher accuracy (more than 9%) in identifying pathological voices from healthy ones with speech signals than EGG signals. However, categorizing pathological voices into different pathology types demonstrates higher accuracy (more than 12%) with EGG signals than speech signals. A comparative performance analysis of the proposed system is presented with these two signals in terms of clinical and statistical measures. The obtained results of this work are also compared with those of other related published works.

A risk map is derived based on socio-economic, environmental, health facilities, and Biological characteristics for quantifying the infection risk of the locality. The inter relation between the environmental variables, meteorological parameters, and socio economic variables such as rainfall, temperature, family income and population density with respect to number of past cases have been studied using regression model. Risk is calculated by mean of the probability of occurrence of tuberculosis and vulnerability to the infection. The risk map is computed by using statistical techniques to form spatial maps. An alert system is developed by using GIS from the background of geospatial data and later published to the web using open source internet GIS technologies.

The proposed algorithm extracts an acoustic feature, called chromagram, from voice samples and applies this feature to the input of a CNN for classification. The main advantage of chromagram is that it can mimic the way humans perceive pitch in sounds and hence can be considered useful to detect dysphonic voices, as the pitch in the generated sounds varies depending on the pathological conditions. The simulation results show that classification accuracy of 85% can be achieved with the chromagram. A comparison of the performances for the proposed algorithm with those of other related works is also presented.

Around 1.2% of the World’s population have been diagnosed with some form of voice disability. Painful endoscopic procedures are commonly practiced to detect this disability. In the recent years, researchers are trying to discover alternatives to avoid these painful procedures. Detecting voice disability by using voice sample analysis is one of them. However, detecting voice disability in children by using this method is a very challenging task because of their immature voice generation system. There is always a chance of misdiagnosis. Hence, it is very imperative to choose appropriate signal processing techniques. In this paper, we investigate different signal processing techniques to detect voice disability in children. Based on the results, we conclude that spectrogram, wavelet and MFC (Mel Frequency Cepstral) are the three main techniques that can distinctly detect voice disability in children.

The fundamentals of the biological process for speech perception are investigated to develop this technique. Two cochlear implant models are considered in this work: one uses a conventional bank of bandpass filters, and the other one uses a bank of optimized gammatone filters. The critical center frequencies of those filters are selected to mimic the human cochlear vibration patterns caused by audio signals. The proposed system processes the speech samples and applies a CNN for final pathological voice identification. The results show that the two proposed models adopting bandpass and gammatone filterbanks can discriminate the pathological voices from healthy ones, resulting in F1 scores of 77.6% and 78.7%, respectively, with speech samples. The obtained results of this work are also compared with those of other related published works.

Attacks on online database application are being frequently reported. Among these attacks, the SQL injection attack is at the top of the list. The hackers alter the SQL query sent by the user and inject malicious code therein. Hence, they access the database and manipulate the data. It is reported in the literature that the traditional SQL injection detection algorithms fail to prevent this type of attack. In this paper, we propose a machine learning based heuristic algorithm to prevent the SQL injection attack. We use a dataset of 616 SQL statements to train and test 23 different machine learning classifiers. Among these classifiers, we select the best five classifiers based on their detection accuracy and develop a Graphical User Interface (GUI) application based on these five classifiers. We test our proposed algorithm and the results show that our algorithm is able to detect the SQL injection attack with a high accuracy (93.8%).

Hence, the signals travel multiple paths, of different lengths and attenuations, before arriving at the base station. This phenomenon is well known as multipath propagation. Multipath propagation results in fading problem, which sets a bottleneck for achieving a very high data rate in Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems. Antenna diversity techniques have been proposed in the literatures to combat multipath fading problem. In this regard, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques are considered to be essential for BWA systems like the IEEE 802.16e, which is popularly known as mobile WiMAX systems. Mobile WiMAX systems define the physical (PHY) layer and Medium Access Control (MAC) layer for mobile and portable BWA systems. In this paper, the performances of MIMO based WiMax system have been investigated. The simulation results presented in this p...

Different modulation schemes namely 64-PSK, 64-QAM, 16-PSK, 16-QAM and QPSK have been used in OFDM technique. The simulation results show that the performance (SNR) of an OFDM system can be significantly improved by using MRC. We have also derived average Symbol Error Rate (SER) of M-ary Quadrature Amplitude (M-QAM) and M-ary Phase Shift Keying (M-PSK) modulations for N-branch MRC space diversity reception scheme. In this paper, it is shown that M-QAM based OFDM technique outperforms M-PSK based OFDM technique. The comparison of the performances of the Signal-to-Noise Ration (SNR) ofM-PSK and M-QAM based OFDM technique has been presented in this paper. It is also shown that SNR can be improved further if the number of receiving antennasis increased.

The free space laser communication has greater advantage over traditional Radio Frequency (RF) communication. Some of the advantages are high data rate, low probability of detection and minimum interception. The major limitation of this optical communication is the noise introduced by the mechanical vibration of the satellites. This kind of vibration causes pointing problem and affects the performance of the inter-satellite link in terms of bit error rate. Hence a perfect tracking system is required for transmitting and receiving satellite. In this paper, a novel method to improve tracking system has been introduced. It has been shown that the vibration effects can be reduced to an acceptable level and hence the bit error rate can be reduced by using a feed forward compensation technique. The improvement in Bit Error Rate (BER) has also been presented in this paper.

This paper presents an investigation on the optimum number of neighbors for mobile ad hoc network... more This paper presents an investigation on the optimum number of neighbors for mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The MANETs are self-configuring and self-organizing networks. In such a network, energyconstrained mobile nodes share limited bandwidth to send their packets to the destinations. The mobile nodes have a limited transmission range and they rely on their neighbors to deliver their packets. Hence, the mobile nodes must be associated with the required (i.e., optimum) number of neighbors. As the number of neighbors is varied, a trade-off exists between the network connectivity and available bandwidth per mobile node. To investigate this issue, we consider Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) as the routing protocol and IEEE 802.11 as the MAC layer protocol in this work. We consider both static and dynamic scenarios in this work. We simulated the ad hoc networks via network simulator (NS-2) and the simulation results show that there exists an optimum number of neighbors for the static case...

Around 1.2% of the World's population are facing some form of voice disability. Surgical procedures namely laryngoscopy, laryngeal electromyography, and stroboscopy are used for voice disability diagnosis. Researchers and practitioners have been working to find alternatives to these surgical procedures. Voice sample based diagnosis is one of them. The major steps followed by these works are (a) to extract voice features from voice samples and (b) to discriminate pathological voices from normal voices by using classifier algorithm. However, there is no consensus about the voice feature and classifier algorithm that can provide the best accuracy in screening voice disability. Moreover, some of the works use multiple voice features and multiple classifiers to ensure high reliability. In this paper, we address these issues. The motivation of the work is to address the need for non invasive signal processing technique to detect voice disability in general population. A comprehensive survey work is done related to voice disability detection methods. The paper contains two main parts. In the first part, we present background information including causes of voice disability, current procedures and practices, voice features, and classifiers. In the second part, we present a comprehensive survey work on voice disability detection algorithms. The issues and challenges related to the selection of voice feature and classifier algorithms have been addressed at the end of this paper.
