Implementation champions are hereby understood as stakeholders in the city who take the initiative to lead and facilitate implementation processes.

In this paper, we explore dynamics of innovation relevant for such lack of implementation, inspired by practice theory, by mirroring two different ways of conceptualizing the building of a new house. We show that the developers of the building project often tend to conceptualize the house as a home, whereas the local planning authorities tend to conceptualize the house as a building. We argue that such a gap in conceptualization of the house has an impact on the ability of planning authorities to successfully facilitate innovation in the building sector in terms of implementing low energy technologies and practices. Based on these findings, we provide some reflections about changes in planning practices that may support bridging between the two conceptualizations and provide more rewarding innovation processes.

Different types of tools are available, but what ...

The evolving decoupling between existing settlements and the main export industry based on marine living resources re-enforced by new mineral extraction based on a workforce that is working temporarily at the mining sites poses a threat to employment in Greenland. At the same time, attracting mineral resource based industries is key to overcome the economic challenges. Mining companies envisage potentials for a fast extraction of the resources using immigrant and migrant labourers that work intensively while living in temporary quarters. The historic experiences of Greenland tell that a different, slower exploitation of mineral resources may contribute to social improvements and competence-building thereby providing long-term improvements for the Greenlandic society. This point to a need for plans and the organisation of mineral exploita...

By translating the old industrial harbour into a site of urban living and recreation, the practice of swimming in the harbour has been instrumental in aligning and catalysing a series of broader urban transformations pertaining to the wastewater infrastructure, industrial activities, urban development, and international marketing of the city. Through a study of the processes by which swimming in the harbour came into being as a transformative urban practice, we develop a navigational conceptualisation of urban transition processes. Our study suggests that the creation of the first harbour bath was not the end result of an overall master plan. Rather, we demonstrate that the harbour baths were the outcome of a contingent interplay among embedded actors' myopic and navigational actions over a period of twenty years. In order to conceptualise what provoked these navigational actions and how th...
